Designing Inclusive, Engaging EdTech Experiences That Empower Every Learner
At AI-Learners, I took on the challenge of redesigning a platform tailored for children with cognitive and physical disabilities—placing accessibility and empathy at the heart of every design decision.
I collaborated directly with the Founder/CEO, special educators, and developers to align the product vision with the diverse needs of neurodivergent learners. I crafted a design system that simplified UI patterns while ensuring full accessibility compliance, including optimal color contrast, scalable UI components, and keyboard-friendly navigation.
Beyond design, I played a strategic role—contributing to product vision, refining learning flows, and hiring new designers who could carry forward our user-first mission. I also created 500+ custom illustrations that brought life and joy to educational content, enhancing engagement through visual storytelling.
1. User-Centered Design: Putting People First
At AI-Learners, I led with empathy. I conducted interviews with parents, educators, and specialists to understand the real-world challenges disabled students face in digital learning environments.
Created user personas for various disability types (visual, cognitive, physical)
Simplified navigation and task flows based on user feedback and accessibility research
Introduced a consistent visual language that focused on clarity, contrast, and readability
Every design choice was backed by the question: “Will this help the learner feel supported, not frustrated?”
2. Enhancing the User Experience with Smart Features
I focused on designing features that made learning more intuitive, rewarding, and personalized.
Gamified Learning Paths: Developed reward-based progression systems with interactive elements
Assistive UI Components: Included visual aids, sound feedback, and simplified layouts for varied learning needs
Progress Tracking: Designed dashboards for parents and educators to monitor student performance with clarity
Custom Illustrations: Built a rich asset library to make lessons visually engaging and emotionally resonant
These smart enhancements weren’t just functional—they were emotional bridges to connection and confidence.
3. Design System & Strategic Impact
To scale the product efficiently, I developed a fully accessible design system:
Modular components tailored to accessibility standards (WCAG-compliant)
Scalable color schemes, typography, and iconography for varied visual needs
Used Figma libraries and token-based design logic to speed up implementation
In addition, I:
Contributed to product roadmap planning
Led recruitment and onboarding for design hires
Facilitated design reviews with cross-functional teams
The system helped us scale faster, reduce dev friction, and maintain UX consistency across a growing platform.
